EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) metadata is embedded in photos by cameras and smartphones. It contains information such as the camera model, lens, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, focal length, GPS coordinates, date and time, and more. This tool extracts and displays all available EXIF data from your image in a readable table. No data is uploaded — parsing happens entirely in your browser.

How to use

  1. Click 'Choose Image' and select the photo you want to inspect.
  2. Click 'View EXIF Data' and wait while the metadata is extracted.
  3. Browse the table of EXIF tags and values.

FAQ

What is EXIF data?

EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a standard that specifies the formats for images, audio, and related ancillary tags used by digital cameras, scanners, and other devices. It stores metadata about how and when an image was created — camera make and model, exposure settings, GPS location, date and time, and more.

Why does my image show no EXIF data?

Not all images contain EXIF data. Screenshots taken on a computer, images saved from the web, images processed through social media platforms (which strip EXIF), and images generated by software typically have no EXIF. Only photos taken with a physical camera or smartphone usually contain rich EXIF data.

Can I see the GPS coordinates from a photo?

Yes, if the photo was taken with a device that had GPS enabled (most modern smartphones) and the EXIF data has not been stripped, the GPS latitude and longitude coordinates will appear in the table. The values are displayed as decimal degrees.

What file formats are supported?

JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC files are supported for EXIF viewing. JPEG files contain the richest EXIF data. PNG and WebP images may contain limited metadata. HEIC files from iPhones typically contain full EXIF including GPS.

Can I edit or remove EXIF data with this tool?

This is a read-only viewer. To remove all EXIF data from an image, use the Remove EXIF Data tool on this site. For selective editing of EXIF fields, use a desktop application such as ExifTool or IrfanView.

Is the metadata read in my browser or on a server?

All EXIF parsing runs entirely in your browser using the exifr library. Your photos are never uploaded to any server.
