Sometimes you have content in a PDF that needs to live on the web. A report that should be readable in a browser without downloading. A document that needs to be embedded in a CMS. Content that needs to be indexed by search engines. Converting a PDF to HTML extracts the text and basic structure into a format that browsers can display natively. The resulting HTML file can be opened in a browser, embedded in a web page, or edited in any HTML editor. The conversion is handled on our secure server using LibreOffice. Complex layouts and graphics may not convert perfectly, but the text content will be fully accessible. Your file is deleted immediately after processing.

How to use

  1. Click 'Choose PDF' and select the PDF you want to convert to HTML.
  2. Click 'Convert to HTML' to start the conversion on our secure server.
  3. Download the .html file and open it in a browser or edit it in an HTML editor.

FAQ

Will the HTML look exactly like the PDF?

For simple text-based documents the HTML will be close to the original. For PDFs with complex layouts, multiple columns, or precise positioning of elements, the HTML version will be a linearised version of the content — all the text will be present but the visual layout will differ significantly from the PDF.

Will images from the PDF be included in the HTML?

LibreOffice attempts to extract images during conversion. Depending on how the images are embedded in the PDF, they may appear as linked files alongside the HTML or may not transfer cleanly. For complex documents with many images, you may need to handle images separately.

Can I use the HTML output on my website?

Yes. The HTML file can be opened in any browser and the content can be pasted into a CMS, embedded in a web page, or further edited with an HTML editor. You may want to clean up the markup and add your own styling before publishing.

Does this work on scanned PDFs?

No. Scanned PDFs contain images rather than text data. The HTML output from a scanned PDF will contain image references but no readable text. Use the Dockitt OCR PDF tool first to add a text layer, then convert to HTML.

Is my file safe when I upload it?

Yes. Your file is sent over an encrypted connection and processed on a secure server. It is deleted immediately after the HTML file is returned to you. Dockitt does not store, read, or share your files.

What is the maximum file size I can convert?

Files up to 10MB are supported. Larger PDFs should be split into sections using the Split PDF tool before converting to HTML.
