Although WebP is widely supported in modern browsers, many desktop applications, email clients, image editors, and document workflows still do not natively open WebP files. Converting WebP to JPG makes your images compatible with any application that handles JPEG, which is essentially everything. The trade-off is that JPEG does not support transparency — transparent areas will be filled with a white background. Dockitt converts WebP to JPG entirely in your browser.

How to use

  1. Click 'Choose WebP' and select the WebP image you want to convert.
  2. Click 'Convert to JPG' and wait while the image is processed.
  3. Download the JPG file.

FAQ

Why convert WebP to JPG?

JPEG has near-universal compatibility across applications, operating systems, and devices. While modern browsers handle WebP natively, many image editors, email clients, social media upload forms, document editors, and legacy applications still do not support WebP. Converting to JPG ensures your image can be opened and shared anywhere.

Will the JPG look the same as the WebP?

At the high quality setting used by this tool, the JPG output will look visually identical to the source WebP for most images. Minor differences may be visible in areas of very fine detail at pixel level, but for practical use the images will be indistinguishable.

What happens to transparent areas in my WebP?

JPEG does not support transparency. Any transparent pixels in the source WebP will be filled with a white background in the JPEG output. If preserving transparency is important, convert to PNG instead.

Will the JPG file be larger or smaller than the WebP?

For photographic content, JPEG and WebP produce similar file sizes at equivalent quality, with WebP typically being slightly smaller. After conversion, the JPG file will likely be slightly larger than the original WebP. The difference is usually modest for standard photographic images.

Does the conversion preserve EXIF metadata?

This browser-based conversion uses the Canvas API, which does not transfer EXIF metadata (camera settings, GPS data, date taken, etc.) from the source image. If preserving EXIF data is important, use a tool that explicitly handles metadata transfer.

Is the conversion done in my browser or on a server?

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded to any server.
