HEIC is the image format used by iPhones and iPads (since iOS 11). While HEIC offers excellent compression, it is not natively supported by many applications on Windows or older Macs. Converting HEIC to JPG makes your photos compatible with virtually any application or platform. Dockitt uses the heic2any library to perform the conversion entirely in your browser — your photos are never uploaded.

How to use

  1. Click 'Choose HEIC' and select the HEIC photo from your iPhone.
  2. Click 'Convert to JPG' and wait while the photo is processed.
  3. Download the JPG file.

FAQ

What is HEIC?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the image format used by Apple devices since iOS 11. It uses the HEVC/H.265 codec to compress images more efficiently than JPEG, resulting in smaller files at the same or better quality. The trade-off is that HEIC is not widely supported outside Apple's ecosystem.

Why does my Windows PC not open HEIC files?

HEIC is not natively supported by Windows unless you install the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store. The easiest solution is to convert your HEIC photos to JPEG before sharing or editing on Windows.

Will I lose quality converting HEIC to JPG?

Some quality loss is expected when converting to JPEG, since JPEG uses lossy compression. However, at the high quality setting used by this tool, the output will be visually indistinguishable from the source for most photos.

Does the conversion work for all HEIC files?

This tool uses the heic2any library which supports most HEIC files from Apple devices. Very old or non-standard HEIC encodings may not be supported. If a file fails, try sending it from your iPhone in JPEG format via Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible.

Is the conversion done in my browser or on a server?

The conversion runs entirely in your browser using the heic2any library. Your photos are never uploaded to any server.
